The Hidden Benefits of Yoga that Your Body is Craving

Yoga is gaining popularity fast - but why? It might have to do with the peace of mind it provides, but more often than not, we're in it for the amazing health benefits!

Read on to find out why you should start practicing yoga regularly.

Yoga is a form of meditation

If you've been on the mat, then you know exactly what we're talking about. There's something very tranquil and serene about stretching your body, holding the poses and breathing deep. It brings you out of your busy mind and into a state of calm.

Yoga increases muscle strength and tone

It takes patience to build up the strength and endurance to be able to hold yoga poses for extended periods of time, especially the more difficult ones. After just a few sessions, you'll notice a difference in your ability to perform, and after a few weeks of regular practice, you'll be close to mastering your favorite poses!

Yoga increases flexibility and balance, while improving posture

To state the obvious, yoga involves lots of stretching. Bending your arms, legs and torso in unusual ways compared to normal life. That means your flexibility will naturally improve, as well as your balance. You'll also find yourself standing on one foot lots of the time (it's not as hard as it sounds, and there are modifications for every pose if you're just starting out).

The constant stretching of your muscles, and especially your back, will help to improve your posture as well. You'll find yourself easily able to hold a proper posture as you go about everyday activities. Yoga even helps to eliminate neck and back pain if done carefully.

Yoga boosts metabolism and promotes weight loss

Since it's a form of exercise, yoga will boost your metabolism and allow you to lose weight much more easily. Moving your body on a daily basis is extremely important, and yoga is a very simple and fun way to do so. Practice yoga, stay healthy.

Rocks Meditation

Yoga improves cardio and circulatory health, and improves respiration

Yoga involves mild breath work, breathing in and out fully and deeply. Your respiration will benefit greatly in the long term from this frequent lung exercise. And as we mentioned earlier, it takes time to build up the skill to hold poses for extended periods and stretch this way and that. Hence, your cardio and circulatory health will thank you. Yoga is a fantastic method of increasing blood flow and lowering blood sugar.

Yoga increases energy and self-esteem

Due to all the body movement and exercise, you'll notice after just a few weeks that your overall energy level has increased, and it's easier for you to do simple things like run up a flight of stairs. Since you'll feel better on the inside (from all the health benefits we've talked about so far), you'll feel better on the outside too. Your self-esteem will skyrocket and you'll be so proud of yourself for committing to such a healthy habit.

Happy Woman in Forest

You can practice yoga from almost anywhere

Whether you're at home, on the beach or dock, taking in the view at the top of a mountain or strolling through your local park, it's easy to unroll your yoga mat and start flowing. Some people find it intimidating practicing in public, but others find inspiration taking part in a spiritual exercise while enjoying their natural surroundings. We encourage you to experiment (while staying safe!) to find the place that makes you feel the most grounded.
